Storage tank replacement at RAF Lakenheath
CPS replaced various above-ground fuel tanks that posed an environmental risk at RAF Lakenheath
Legacy above-ground storage tanks (AST) had fallen well below minimum standard at RAF Lakenheath and posed environmental risks. The project was due to commence at the end of August with heating season fast approaching, so CPS was approached with this environmentally sensitive and time-critical project.
Solutions
The project involved installation of multiple new steel oil storage tanks 6000L-10,000L; each installed to current fuel base standards which included, removal of the old oil source, construction of a new concrete base as well as all trenching for oil pipe work.
The design involved a fully pumped system at 1bar and a pipe in pipe fuel supply providing leak detection. The complete system interfaced with the existing base wide BMS system which enabled faults and monitoring and warning alarms.
